Thank you for the continued support of these pets & their families!!!
On July 28 at 11:29pm, Denise Wirth Stover uploaded a picture onto Facebook’s Oliver Alert page of a dog that had been lingering around their neighborhood. Denise posted, “This Malamute/Husky has been wandering around the south Paulding County area of Ridge Road/Seals Road area for a couple of weeks. He finally just came up to us tonight and asked us for some food and water. We let him in and obliged. Let me know if you have any idea where he belongs.”
Less than 24 hours later, an official Oliver Alert notice was published onto Facebook. Oliver Alert has almost 2,000 fans that help share postings of lost and found animals. On that day, Tracy Lee Yates reposted the Oliver Alert information of the found Husky onto her personal Facebook page.
On July 30 at 5:55am, Royce Underwood noticed the Oliver Alert posting on his Facebook News Feed made by a former high school friend of his, Tracy Yates. The dog looked like his son’s lost Husky who had been missing for over a year. Royce commented on the Oliver Alert posting, “Does this guy have a bad back leg? My son’s husky “Koby” disappeared out of our yard. We put up posters and put up signs all over. We truly think someone took him out of there.”
On July 31, I logged onto Oliver Alert and noticed an urgent plea from Kristie Brown-Underwood stating, “To Denise Wirth Stover… I have been desperately trying to contact you. My sons Husky Koby has been missing for a year. The picture you posted looks just like him. He has a tuft of white hair on his neck, and when he was a puppy he broke his leg so he limps a little. please contact me. – Kristie”
By the time, Denise and Kristie connected, the Husky had gotten away again. However, the Underwood’s had a renewed sense of hope and a specific geographic location of where to go.
Kristie Underwood’s son raced to Paulding County, Georgia, which is 2 hours away to find this dog and see if he was Koby or not. Kristie’s son found the dog and the “gentleman” who had been keeping the Husky for two weeks would not give him back. Certain that this was their Koby, the Underwood family would take whatever action was needed to bring their beloved dog back home.
After several heated conversations as well as calls to authorities and Koby’s former vet…the man keeping the husky called and said, “come get him.”
On August 2nd at 12:23am, Royce Underwood joyfully updated the Oliver Alert page with the message, “FOUND!!!!! after 17 months. Original posting from Denise Wirth Stover.”
Through veterinary records, the Underwood’s were able to verify that this husky was in fact their lost dog, Koby.
The sweet words of seeing, “He’s Home” makes this a great Success Story not only for the Stover, Yates and Underwood families but, for me as well, the girl who started Oliver Alert.
Thank you Oliver Alert fans…You make a difference!!
All my best,

After missing my little rescued doll for an agonizing week and a half, I received a call on Wednesday morning of this week from her vet. I KNEW it had to be the good call I had been waiting for, as I had been checking with them every day. Somehow this hardy yet tender little soul had journeyed all the way to UCSB, in the college town of Isla Vista, almost 20 miles north of home in Santa Barbara.
I’ll never know why north was her direction…the only other two areas she had been sighted in were directly north of here as well. So apparently she survived by just continuing to travel, hiding when she need to, whatever she found to eat thank God was safe. But she didn’t eat much, she lost a pound, which is quite a bit when you only weigh less than 8 pounds.
How she managed to survive predators of all types, cars, humans who might have kept her (this is another danger for lost pets), starvation, and cold rainy weather is a mystery and a miracle. She was in an office on campus at UCSB. A girl was walking up the stairs to her office and saw Hope walking very slowly up the stairs. She asked the woman ahead of her if that was her dog. When she replied no, Hope allowed her to pick her up and check her tags. The fact that her collar was still on is what saved her, and reunited us. Somehow her name tag had come off but her rabies tag was still attached. I didn’t even let her use potty outside in the yard the other night til she had on her brand new tag and collar.
She had lost weight, has a small puncture wound and large bruise on her little belly, and a few other scratches, she even had a few ticks (ugh)! But other than being very tired she is fine.
The last two nights she has fallen asleep on the couch very early with Frida, Diego and I. Right now she is still asleep with them in the bed, snug and secure after her terrifying experience.
Frida and Diego were so thrilled to see her when she came home with me. They had a mutual happy dance and lots of tail wagging…and she and Diego were playing chase 20 minutes later!
I will always remain amazed and grateful by the outpouring of support Hope and I received from our FB friends, family, and strangers. I have so many messages to return, concerned friends of friends to notify. She is truly a lesson in Hope…which is why I named her that. In her shelter pic from last summer…she has an expression of pure hope…despite the fact that she was in a scary kill shelter, skinny and scraggly looking with two days left to live.
I know she was meant to be an ambassador for all animals who wait and pray for the day that adoption will become the way that all kind people choose their
companions. She also wants to plead with everyone who reads this to keep your babies on a leash and harness, and be aware at all times. Even though she was on hers, the terror of the attack caused her to panic so much that she slipped out of her harness. It will be awhile before we choose a new one and go on a walk again, and it wont’ be in our neighborhood. There are too many ignorant people who won’t obey the leash law.
But I want to end her story on a happy note.
She is home, she is loved, she, has ANOTHER chance at the happy life I brought her into last year. Thank you all again for your unwavering support and love.
I will continue to post and fight for homeless animals til my fingers fall off.
Hope said she loves you all.
love, Cyndi
Dawn, I have some good news to share. I do have Sasha back home. She was spotted in the backyard of a home in an adjoining subdivision yesterday in the morning (14 houses and two backyards away from our home).
I spent 7 hours sitting on the ground trying to entice her to come close enough for me to scruff her and pick her up. She is flea infested, limping on her left front paw, thinner, dirty but happy to be home. These people had been actively involved with looking for her. They had called me three other times about cats around their home. None of those cats were Sasha. Yesterday at 6:45 AM they called once again and this time it turned out to be her. I got very very very lucky – I know that.
I am saying many prayers that Oliver is found. Don’t give up hope. You are doing everything the right way – someone out there has seen him. I’ve seen the new posters with the different picture. He is absolutely the sweetest looking dog. Please know that I will continue to look for him as I walk and/or drive the neighborhoods around here. I understand the heartbreak you feel.

Dawn:
You asked for other suggestions. Take fliers to all the vet clinics in your area. Hand it to the receptionist. Call or email any rescue groups in your area. I am sad to say some rescue groups do not make an effort to reunite dogs. Keep checking the Internet, Petfinders and Craig’s list. Also keep checking your local and not so local shelters.
I don’t know if you live in a country area or city, but keep in mind that these little dogs turn feral very quickly. Also, they can travel a long way. One of our rescue dogs got lose and was found 28 miles away. This was a wooded area and she was a little dog. I can’t believe the dog made it so far in a few days. So don’t limit your calls to your closest shelter. Check farther out.
I can’t remember was your baby micro-chipped? If so, make sure the information is current.
Keep your hopes up.
